Otokar has signed a $1.472 billion export contract for various types of wheeled armored vehicles and integrated logistics support, according to an October 1 filing with Türkiye's Public Disclosure Platform (KAP).
The Turkish land-systems manufacturer did not identify the customer, destination country, vehicle types or quantities. The deal has been signed but is not yet effective. Otokar said it will take effect after required official approvals, guarantee procedures and receipt of the advance payment.
Otokar will provide bank letters of guarantee totaling $441.6 million to secure its obligations and the advance payment. Deliveries are due to begin in 2027 and continue in batches over three years. The contract will remain in force for seven years.
New deal exceeds Otokar's Romania contract
The order is larger in value than Otokar's €857 million contract with Romania, signed in November 2024 for 1,059 COBRA II 4x4 light tactical armored vehicles and integrated logistics support. Otokar described that deal as Türkiye's largest single-item armored vehicle export contract.
The first 278 Romanian vehicles were allocated for production in Türkiye and the remaining 781 for local production in Romania. Bosphorus News reported in July that Otokar had begun deliveries of Romanian-built COBRA II vehicles from its Mediaș facility.
The Romania program also made Otokar the first Turkish land-vehicle manufacturer producing armored vehicles inside the European Union. A Bosphorus News strategic brief on July 28 covered the Mediaș plant as Otokar expanded armored-vehicle production inside the EU.
Customer and vehicle mix remain undisclosed
The October filing does not identify the buyer or show whether the order centers on one existing Otokar platform or combines several wheeled armored vehicle families.
The disclosure came during ADEX 2026 in Baku, where Türkiye and Azerbaijan announced a wider package of defense agreements. Those announcements included a separate logistics support agreement between Azerbaijan's MİRAS and Otokar. Neither Otokar's filing nor the Azerbaijani announcements connect that agreement to the $1.472 billion order.
KAP confirms the value, delivery schedule, guarantee structure and seven-year term. The customer, vehicle count and platform mix have not been disclosed.
