Togg Becomes Türkiye’s Electric-Vehicle Leader — Surpasses Tesla and BYD in 2025 Sales Surge
Togg Tops Türkiye’s EV Market, Overtaking Tesla and BYD
Türkiye’s domestic electric-vehicle brand Togg has closed the January–November 2025 period as the clear market leader, selling approximately 31,715 units and surpassing major global competitors Tesla and BYD. Industry data shows Tesla at around 29,955 sales, followed by BYD with 17,639, placing Togg firmly at the top of the national EV rankings.
The surge in sales is part of a broader shift in consumer behavior: electric, hybrid, and extended-range vehicles together grew by more than 110% compared to last year, reaching about 166,000 units. Fully electric vehicles alone now account for more than 17% of Türkiye’s entire automotive market, a dramatic rise from just a few years ago.
Analysts note that nearly half of all vehicles sold in Türkiye today are electrified in some form, reflecting rapidly changing preferences across the country.
Why Togg Is Rising So Quickly
Several factors are credited for Togg’s successful rise:
Domestic demand and pricing advantages:
Supportive tax policies in recent years, especially on the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV), have increased EV affordability and narrowed the pricing gap between electric and internal-combustion models.
A growing charging network:
Nationwide investment in charging infrastructure has significantly improved driver confidence. The expansion of high-speed charging stations has been particularly influential in encouraging first-time EV buyers.
Market alignment and brand identity:
Togg’s T10X SUV has been one of the most sought-after models in the Turkish market. Its combination of size, design, and national branding has resonated strongly with consumers, especially as SUVs continue to dominate overall vehicle sales.
Reports from previous years also indicate that Togg’s SUV alone captured around 30% of Türkiye’s EV market, placing it among the country’s top sellers across all categories.
Türkiye’s EV Market Reaches a Turning Point
Türkiye is increasingly seen as a rising electric-mobility hub. In 2024, the country ranked among the world’s top ten fastest-growing EV markets, with annual sales exceeding 120,000 units. Many of the fastest-growing segments were dominated by local buyers choosing EVs for the first time.
The strong performance is not only about Togg’s momentum. Tesla, BYD, and several European and Asian manufacturers continue to expand their presence in the country. However, the domestic brand now benefits from both competitive pricing and a strong national identity.
The shift in market dynamics signals a broader industrial transformation, with implications for battery production, charging infrastructure investment, and Türkiye’s long-term ambitions in green mobility.
What Togg’s Lead Means for Türkiye
Togg’s position as Türkiye’s leading EV brand is viewed as a strategic milestone for the country’s broader industrial agenda. The company’s growth strengthens domestic manufacturing, enhances Türkiye’s technological standing, and helps accelerate the transition toward low-emission transportation.
For consumers, increased competition among Togg, Tesla, BYD, and other producers is expected to deliver more affordable prices, broader model choices, and faster innovation.
Looking ahead, industry observers expect Türkiye’s EV share to continue climbing, especially as domestic production expands and new Togg models enter the market.
