National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Marks 99th Anniversary
Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) marked its 99th anniversary on 6 January 2026, according to a statement published on the organization’s official website.
In a written message titled “The National Intelligence Organization at 99: Toward a Safer and Stronger Türkiye in the Türkiye Century,” MIT President İbrahim Kalın underlined the changing nature of security threats and the role of intelligence in safeguarding national stability. Kalın described today’s security environment as increasingly complex, shaped by overlapping regional and global risks.
“When it comes to the security of the homeland, the entire world constitutes a potential field of concern for Türkiye,” Kalın said, pointing to the broad scope in which contemporary intelligence work is conducted. He added that MIT continues to adapt its operational mindset in response to evolving challenges.
The message stressed that the organization follows a preventive and proactive intelligence approach, aimed not only at countering existing threats but also at identifying and neutralizing emerging risks at an early stage. Institutional resilience, technological capacity, and human capital were highlighted as key pillars of this approach.
Kalın also emphasized continuity and transformation, noting that MIT has consistently renewed itself in line with changing conditions while preserving its core mission. Referring to the broader national framework, he said the organization’s work is guided by the goal of building “a safer and stronger Türkiye in the Türkiye Century.”
The statement concluded by reaffirming the strategic importance of intelligence institutions within Türkiye’s national security architecture as the country approaches the centenary of the Republic.
