Akar Issues Easter Warning to Greek Cypriots in Pointed Social Media Post

Hulusi Akar, former Chief of Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces and current chair of the Turkish Grand National Assembly's National Defense Committee, posted a video on X on April 7 showing the northern part of Cyprus overlaid with the flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

The accompanying message read: "Those who dream of Easter on the homeland of the Turkish Cypriot... This will be your last Easter."

The post was published in the days following Easter, as regional tensions over Cyprus's role in Eastern Mediterranean defense architecture are running at their highest point since the Iran war began. Defense Minister Yasar Guler earlier this week confirmed that Türkiye has deployed F-16s and air defense systems to Northern Cyprus and raised the readiness posture to its highest level.

Akar did not elaborate further. The post has not drawn an official response from Athens or Nicosia at the time of publication.
