A new Japan themed immersive exhibition, Dreamtime: Japan (Düşler Zamanı: Japonya), opened at Istanbul’s Digital Experience Center on 20 March, presenting around 400 classical Japanese works reinterpreted through projection mapping, virtual reality, augmented reality and interactive digital installations.

According to İBB Kültür AŞ, the exhibition draws on works collected from 20 museums and transforms 17th to 19th century Japanese art into a contemporary multi-sensory experience. The institution says the project is also intended to strengthen cultural dialogue between Türkiye and Japan.

İBB Kültür AŞ General Manager Osman Cenk Akın said the exhibition brings together a 300-year Japanese artistic legacy with Türkiye’s first full-scale Digital Experience Center. He said nearly 400 classical works were digitally reimagined for the show.

The venue says the center has welcomed nearly 600,000 visitors since opening in February 2024. Its previous exhibitions included Beyond Time: Nikola Tesla (Zamanın Ötesinde: Nikola Tesla), From Tradition to Future (Gelenekten Geleceğe) and Van Gogh: In the Footsteps of Light (Van Gogh: Işığın İzinde), with the Van Gogh exhibition alone drawing more than 300,000 visitors.

The Digital Experience Center says its exhibition spaces include a Digital Room, Virtual Reality Room, Immersive Experience Room, Augmented Reality Room and Digital Corridor. Tickets for Dreamtime: Japan are available at the box office and through Passo.
