Galatasaray produced one of the most emphatic European performances in recent memory, defeating Juventus 5-2 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League knockout play-off at Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi in Istanbul on 17 February.

The Turkish champions struck first in the 15th minute through Gabriel Sara, only for Juventus to respond immediately. Teun Koopmeiners equalised a minute later and then put the Italian side ahead with his second goal in the 32nd minute, giving Juventus a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Galatasaray emerged transformed after the break.

Noa Lang levelled the match in the 49th minute before Davinson Sánchez headed the hosts into the lead on 60 minutes. Juventus’ task grew even more difficult in the 67th minute when Juan Cabal was sent off.

With the numerical advantage, Galatasaray took full control. Lang struck again in the 75th minute to extend the lead, and substitute Sacha Boey sealed the 5-2 victory with a late goal in the 86th minute.

The result gives Galatasaray a commanding advantage ahead of the second leg in Turin and marks one of the club’s most memorable European nights in recent seasons.
