Baldwin’s Buzzer-Beater Sparks Chaos in Athens as Fenerbahçe Files Complaint
By Bosphorus News Staff
Fenerbahçe Beko confirmed it has filed a formal complaint following postgame incidents after its 85-83 EuroLeague victory over Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens in Round 28 on February 13.
The game at OAKA was decided by a last-second shot from Wade Baldwin IV, sealing a dramatic away win for the Istanbul side.
According to multiple reports, tensions escalated immediately after the buzzer. Panathinaikos center Mathias Lessort entered the court area and confronted Fenerbahçe players, triggering a heated exchange. Security personnel intervened as players from both sides became involved. Reports also indicated that tensions continued in the corridors following the final whistle.
Official complaint filed
Fenerbahçe board member Cem Ciritci confirmed institutional action in a public statement:
“There is no need to worry; all of our players are fine. The necessary precautions have been taken. We have filed our complaints regarding what happened after the game and will continue to follow the situation closely.”
The statement marks a formal escalation by the Turkish club and places the matter under potential EuroLeague disciplinary review.
Jasikevičius: Focus on improvement
Despite the dramatic finish, head coach Šarūnas Jasikevičius focused on performance rather than controversy.
Speaking via the club’s official website on February 14, Jasikevičius said:
“This arena is never easy to play in. We did not play very well and made many simple mistakes.”
He added:
“Winning and being leaders is important, but what matters more is continuous improvement. Hopefully we will maintain this mindset until the play-offs.”
Basketball first
Fenerbahçe’s win was anchored by a strong individual performance from Tarık Biberović, who was named Player of the Game with 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting.
The result strengthens Fenerbahçe’s position in the EuroLeague regular season standings, while the disciplinary dimension of the postgame altercation now shifts attention off the court.
No official statement had been issued by Panathinaikos at the time of publication. Further updates are expected pending EuroLeague review.
