Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman will meet Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides on May 8 at 16:00 at the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative residence in the buffer zone, according to the TRNC Presidency.

The meeting comes as Erhürman sets a dual line ahead of the talks: dialogue, but not a process that sidelines Turkish Cypriots.

"I am not here to enlarge problems through quarrels, but to produce solutions through consultation, diplomacy and dialogue," Erhürman said in an official statement.

That message was paired with a sharper warning in separate remarks on recent regional developments and agreements involving the Greek Cypriot administration.

"Does anyone really think there can be a solution on this island by ignoring Turkish Cypriots?" Erhürman said, calling on all sides to reassess whether current steps contribute to a settlement.

His comments pointed to growing concern in the north that the Cyprus issue is being shaped through external partnerships and energy projects that proceed without Turkish Cypriot participation.

Erhürman referred to recent developments including defence cooperation agreements involving the Greek Cypriot administration and statements from European officials linking Cyprus to broader regional frameworks. He criticised approaches that frame the island's future through energy and security initiatives while treating Turkish Cypriots as absent from the equation.

The position is consistent with Erhürman's broader Cyprus framework. As detailed in earlier Bosphorus News coverage of Erhürman's position on shared authority, political equality and a clear roadmap, he has argued that any viable process must rest on defined terms rather than open-ended talks.

That framework also extends to the UN track. Bosphorus News previously reported that Erhürman urged António Guterres to bring creativity and urgency to the Cyprus process, while stressing that any new negotiation phase needs structure and direction.

Bosphorus News has also tracked Erhürman's warning that talks without clear rules are eroding trust, a line that now frames the May 8 meeting as a test of whether dialogue can move forward within agreed parameters.

The meeting is expected to address practical issues such as crossing points and confidence-building measures, alongside the broader political track linked to the UN process.

The tone set ahead of the talks suggests that engagement will take place within clearly defined limits. Erhürman's message combines an openness to dialogue with a firm position that any process which sidelines Turkish Cypriots cannot deliver a viable settlement.
