Erhürman and Christodoulides to Meet Today in Nicosia

Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides are set to meet today in Nicosia in a United Nations-hosted meeting expected to focus on crossing points and the next steps in the Cyprus process. The meeting is scheduled for 16:30 and will take place at the UN mission residence in the buffer zone.
The meeting follows a period of heightened political messaging from the Turkish Cypriot side, with Erhürman recently reiterating Türkiye's guarantor role over the island in public remarks, framing security and sovereignty issues as central to the current phase of the Cyprus debate.
It also comes after a more recent dispute over access to Hala Sultan Tekke, where the Turkish Cypriot side accused the Greek Cypriot administration of blocking an Eid prayer visit to one of the island's most significant Muslim holy sites.
According to local media reports, the meeting will be held behind closed doors under UN auspices, with crossing points expected to be a central item on the agenda.
The meeting follows separate contacts that both leaders held with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and is expected to address the UN's assessment of whether there is room for movement in the process.
Local coverage has also framed the meeting as taking place under the shadow of a general strike, with expectations for a concrete breakthrough remaining limited.
