“We Seek Peace, Not Conflict,” Erdoğan Says as Türkiye Reaffirms Resolve in the Eastern Mediterranean
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reiterated that Türkiye seeks peace and stability in its region, while making clear that Ankara will not compromise on what it considers its legitimate rights and interests, particularly in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the commissioning of new naval platforms, Erdoğan stated, “We do not want any tension, crisis or conflict with any country.” He emphasized that Türkiye’s fundamental objective is regional peace, adding, “Our only wish is peace and stability for our neighbors.” At the same time, he delivered a firm message of resolve: “We will not allow anyone to violate our rights.”
Peaceful Intent, Firm Red Lines
Erdoğan’s remarks combined conciliatory language with clear warnings. While underlining that Türkiye has no expansionist ambitions, he stressed that Ankara will act decisively when its sovereignty or maritime rights are challenged. “Türkiye will continue to defend what belongs to it,” he said, framing this stance as a matter of responsibility rather than confrontation.
The president underscored that Türkiye’s growing naval capabilities are intended to preserve peace, not provoke conflict. “The purpose of our defense investments is to protect our independence, our future, and peace,” Erdoğan said, adding that deterrence is a key element of stability.

Erdoğan’s statements come amid ongoing regional alignments and competing claims in the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly related to maritime jurisdiction, security cooperation, and energy exploration. Ankara has repeatedly argued that lasting stability in the region requires inclusive dialogue and respect for the rights of all coastal states.
From Türkiye’s perspective, exclusionary security or energy arrangements risk deepening divisions rather than resolving disputes. Erdoğan reiterated this view indirectly, noting that cooperation and fairness are the only viable paths forward.

The ceremony also highlighted Türkiye’s broader naval modernisation drive, including advanced submarines and unmanned maritime platforms. Erdoğan described these capabilities as tools to “defend peace, independence and our blue homeland,” signaling continuity in Ankara’s maritime doctrine.
Officials emphasize that a strong navy allows Türkiye to protect sea lanes, deter unilateral actions, and support diplomatic efforts with credible capacity.
