UN Envoy Holguín to Hold Separate and Joint Cyprus Talks on 26–28 January
The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguín, will travel to Cyprus from 26 to 29 January 2026 as part of ongoing UN-facilitated efforts to sustain dialogue between the two sides on the island, the UN announced.
According to a statement shared by UNFICYP on X, Holguín has just concluded a visit to Brussels, where she met with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas. She will next travel to Cyprus to continue her consultations with the leaders and representatives of both communities.
On 26 January, Holguín is scheduled to meet with the chief negotiators representing the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides. The following day, 27 January, she will hold separate meetings with the Turkish Cypriot leader and the Greek Cypriot leader.
On 28 January, Holguín will convene a joint meeting between Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides. The meeting is intended as a follow-up to the leaders’ encounter held on 11 December 2025, according to the UN statement.
The planned meetings were also officially confirmed by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which announced that Erhürman would meet Holguín during her visit to the island. Turkish Cypriot media, including the public broadcaster, reported that the talks would take place under UN auspices as part of efforts to maintain structured engagement between the two sides.
The UN mission in Cyprus has described its role as supporting the Secretary-General’s good offices, facilitating dialogue, and helping maintain conditions conducive to a political process, without prejudice to the positions of either side.
