Turkish Exports to Syria Surge Over 50% in 2025, Passing $3 Billion Milestone

Turkish exports to neighboring Syria have climbed sharply in 2025, surpassing $3 billion and marking a 54.1 percent increase compared with the previous year, according to Türkiye’s Deputy Trade Minister Özgür Volkan Ağar.

Speaking in Antalya, Deputy Minister Ağar said exports to Syria had reached more than $3 billion this year, compared with $1.95 billion in 2024, pointing to a rapid expansion in bilateral trade as cross-border commerce gains momentum.

The deputy minister linked the rise to improving conditions and widening economic activity, saying that as Syria strengthens internal stability, trade and commercial ties are expected to deepen further. He added that Ankara anticipates continued growth as reconstruction and market activity accelerate.

The reported increase comes as part of a broader upward trend in Türkiye’s exports in 2025. Officials have highlighted export performance as a central pillar of economic policy, with final annual export figures expected to be presented at a national export ceremony in January 2026.

Context and Regional Implications

The renewed trade momentum with Syria comes against shifting regional dynamics. After years in which conflict dramatically constrained cross-border commerce, the sharp rise in exports signals a widening role for Türkiye-based suppliers in meeting demand across the border, particularly as supply chains and distribution channels normalize.

For Türkiye, growth in exports to nearby markets such as Syria also aligns with broader objectives to diversify export destinations while reinforcing economic interdependence in the region.
