Türkiye’s installed solar energy capacity has surpassed 25 gigawatts, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on March 21, pointing to continued growth in the country’s renewable energy sector.

In a statement published on the ministry’s official website, Bayraktar said solar energy had become one of the main drivers of Türkiye’s electricity generation capacity, with steady additions in recent years. He said the increase reflects both large-scale investments and the expansion of distributed generation.

According to International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) data for end-2024, Germany led Europe with 89,943 MW of installed solar capacity, followed by Spain with 36,285 MW and Italy with 36,008 MW, while Türkiye stood at 19,882 MW; however, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources said Türkiye’s installed solar capacity had reached 25,827 MW by the end of January 2026, a level that would place it ahead of the Netherlands, France, Poland and the United Kingdom based on the latest comparable European country data currently available.

The ministry noted that renewable energy remains a central pillar of Türkiye’s energy policy, with solar playing a growing role alongside wind and hydropower in reducing external energy dependence.

Separate industry reporting has also highlighted that Türkiye’s solar capacity crossed the 25 GW threshold, underlining the pace of installations and the contribution of rooftop and unlicensed projects to overall growth.

The latest figures place Türkiye among the leading solar markets in its region, with capacity expected to continue rising as new projects come online.
