Türkiye Says Gas Supply Secure After Iran Cut, Points to Storage and Alternative Flows

Türkiye’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on March 24 that the country faces no gas supply risk after Iran halted exports, stating that storage levels remain sufficient and alternative import routes are in place to keep the system stable.

“From the perspective of natural gas and oil, we do not have any problems in our storage,” Bayraktar said, adding that Türkiye’s energy system remains secure despite regional disruptions.

The remarks follow the recent halt in Iranian gas flows linked to the strike on the South Pars field, which had raised concerns over supply pressure across the region.

Bayraktar said Türkiye continues to manage supply through a diversified system that includes pipeline gas from Russia and Azerbaijan, as well as liquefied natural gas imports.

He added that existing storage capacity provides a buffer against short-term disruptions, allowing the system to absorb shocks tied to infrastructure damage or regional instability.

The minister also pointed to Türkiye’s broader energy management approach, where multiple supply channels and storage capacity are used to balance fluctuations in incoming flows.

The comments signal that Ankara is seeking to reassure markets and consumers following the Iran cutoff, framing the disruption as manageable within the current supply structure.
