Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned on April 9 that the international community should be prepared for possible Israeli moves that could undermine the fragile ceasefire and negotiation track taking shape around the U.S.-Iran file.

Speaking after talks in Ankara with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, Fidan said the risk was not limited to battlefield escalation and cautioned that steps could be taken to derail diplomacy. "The world public opinion, in particular, must be prepared for Israel's possible sabotage moves and be in a position to deliver the necessary response," he said.

Fidan also argued that the ceasefire framework requires protection from disruption if it is to evolve into a more durable arrangement. He said the current truce may need to be extended and stressed that negotiations should begin in good faith, adding that the process should be implemented in a way that also includes Lebanon.

He sharpened his language on Israel's operations, saying attacks had continued before the ceasefire had fully taken hold and warning that further military action risks deepening the humanitarian situation while undermining the negotiation track. He added that Israel should not be allowed to derail talks once again.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on April 9, discussing the ceasefire and the regional security picture. Erdoğan said Türkiye had played an active role in efforts leading to the truce and stressed that the upcoming negotiation phase should be used to secure lasting stability.

He underlined the importance of preventing attempts to undermine the process and said Türkiye would continue to coordinate with relevant countries and contribute to efforts aimed at maintaining the ceasefire and advancing negotiations.
