Türkiye Moves to Contain Iran War as Fidan Launches Regional Diplomacy Tour
By Bosphorus News Geopolitics Desk
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will begin a regional diplomacy tour in the coming days aimed at helping end the ongoing war in the Middle East and preventing further escalation, according to official statements.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Ankara, Fidan said the tour will focus on conveying Türkiye’s assessments and proposals to regional actors, with the goal of achieving a lasting ceasefire and restoring diplomatic channels.
The initiative comes as the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran continues to expand, raising concerns about broader regional spillover and long-term instability.
Fidan said the tour will include contacts with multiple countries in the region, though specific destinations have not been publicly detailed. The effort will carry messages from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and reflect Ankara’s position that the war must be contained and resolved through dialogue.
Türkiye has intensified diplomatic engagement since the outbreak of the conflict, maintaining contacts with both Western and regional actors, including Iran, Gulf states and European partners. Officials have repeatedly warned that continued escalation risks triggering a wider regional crisis.
Ankara has positioned itself as a mediator, urging all sides to return to negotiations and emphasizing that the region cannot absorb another prolonged conflict. Turkish officials have also stressed the importance of preventing sectarian fragmentation and protecting regional stability.
The planned tour follows a series of recent diplomatic engagements by Fidan, including meetings with United Nations officials and foreign counterparts from Europe and the Middle East, as Türkiye expands its diplomatic footprint amid the crisis.
Türkiye has consistently stated that it does not want to be drawn into the conflict while maintaining its readiness to contribute to de-escalation efforts.
The timing of the tour reflects growing urgency in Ankara, as military developments on multiple fronts continue to increase pressure on regional security and economic stability.
