Defense Ministry Warns France and Greece Against Anti-Türkiye Military Scenarios

By Bosphorus News Defense Desk

Türkiye's National Defense Ministry (MSB), warned on April 30 that regional security initiatives directed against Ankara have no chance of success, issuing a blunt message to European actors as tensions rise over French-Greek statements and reports of a possible French military presence in southern Cyprus.

The ministry said recent remarks targeting Türkiye's regional role and its place in Europe's security architecture were incompatible with alliance solidarity. It singled out NATO members France and Greece, saying scenario-based comments by both countries risk increasing tensions and damaging regional stability.

The message was explicit. MSB said that in any situation involving security and stability, those who position themselves against Türkiye will not prevail, while those who act alongside Türkiye will.

The statement framed Türkiye as an unavoidable actor in any regional security equation. MSB said any military alignment being built against Türkiye in the region would have no chance of success.

Cyprus was the clearest international file in the briefing. Asked about reports that French troops could be deployed to the Greek Cypriot Administration, the ministry said Türkiye acts in line with international law and prioritises regional peace, but added that this does not mean Ankara or the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will compromise on national rights and interests.

MSB recalled that the security and stability of Cyprus are governed by international agreements and that Türkiye is one of the guarantor powers. It said the security need behind a possible French deployment remained unclear and warned that such steps could disturb the island's "sensitive balance" and raise tensions.

The briefing also carried a Gaza and maritime-law dimension. MSB described Israel's intervention against the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters as a clear violation of international law, saying the flotilla had been formed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

On the defence diplomacy side, the ministry highlighted EFES-2026, held from April 20 to May 21 under the command of the Aegean Army. The exercise covers western Anatolia, the central Aegean, İzmir Gulf and the Doğanbey live-fire training area, with participation from friendly and allied countries.

The message extended beyond a routine military briefing. Ankara used the platform to draw a clear line across European security debates, the Cyprus file and emerging regional alignments, positioning itself not as a country to be contained but as a central actor whose inclusion shapes stability.
