Türkiye Warns of Regional Spillover as Çelik Says Ankara Will Stay Out of Iran War

Türkiye will stay out of the expanding regional war and resist any attempt to draw it into the conflict, ruling party spokesperson Ömer Çelik said on Monday.

“Türkiye will stay away from the fire,” Çelik said after a party meeting in Ankara, adding that Ankara is aware of potential provocations and “will not fall into any trap.”

His remarks follow a series of escalating incidents involving Iran, Israel and U.S. forces, including missile and drone activity affecting multiple countries. Turkish officials have warned that further escalation could spread beyond the initial conflict zone.

Çelik said actions targeting third countries could trigger a wider regional war. Ankara has repeated this warning since the early phase of the crisis. The priority, he said, is to prevent the conflict from expanding.

The implications extend to the Eastern Mediterranean. Cyprus has taken on a more visible role as a forward platform for allied military activity, while naval deployments across the region have increased.

Çelik has previously described the scale of military presence in the Eastern Mediterranean as unprecedented, noting that the concentration of warships has reached levels that affect civilian maritime activity.

The Cyprus dimension remains sensitive for Ankara. Turkish officials have criticised efforts by the Greek Cypriot administration to deepen defence ties with external actors, arguing that turning the island into a military hub increases exposure to regional conflict rather than reducing it.

Çelik also pointed to Türkiye’s defence posture, stating that strengthening unmanned aerial capabilities remains essential for national security.

Ankara continues to call for restraint and a return to diplomacy. At the same time, officials underline that avoiding direct involvement does not mean reducing readiness.
