TAV Airports Extends Tbilisi Airport Concession to 2032, Commits $150m Investment
TAV Airports has secured an extension of its operating concession at Tbilisi International Airport, prolonging its management role until 2032 and unlocking a new phase of large-scale infrastructure investment.
Under the revised agreement with Georgian authorities, TAV will proceed with a $150 million modernization and expansion programme, aimed at easing capacity constraints and upgrading passenger facilities at the country’s busiest airport.
The investment plan focuses on terminal expansion, apron development, and operational upgrades designed to accommodate rising passenger volumes. Planned works include the enlargement of the terminal building, new boarding bridges, additional aircraft parking stands, expanded baggage handling capacity, and increased car-parking space. Border control and check-in infrastructure are also set to be reinforced to improve passenger flow.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly raise annual passenger handling capacity, positioning the airport for continued growth in regional and international traffic.
Passenger numbers at Tbilisi Airport have rebounded strongly in recent years, driven by Georgia’s expanding tourism sector and growing air connectivity with Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. The concession extension signals confidence in the airport’s long-term demand outlook and in TAV’s operating model.
TAV has been operating Tbilisi International Airport since 2005, overseeing previous expansion phases that reshaped the airport into a modern international gateway. The new agreement extends this partnership into the next decade, anchoring further private investment in Georgia’s aviation infrastructure.
The project also underlines the deepening commercial footprint of Turkish operators in the South Caucasus, where transport and logistics assets are increasingly viewed as strategic enablers of trade and mobility.
