Türkiye Sets Year-End Deadline for SDF: Integrate or Face Joint Syrian-Turkish Military Action

Türkiye has drawn a hard line with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), giving the Kurdish-led group until year's end to integrate into the Syrian state under a March 10 agreement—or face military operations led by Damascus with Turkish support. Security sources told Türkiye daily that SDF must disband as an organization while allowing individual fighters to join the Syrian army, explicitly barring PKK-linked leaders from key roles. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reinforced this at the Doha Forum, saying the SDF shows "no intention" of complying and stressing one unified command: "There can be no two armies in any country."

Military Movements Signal Escalation

Reports of heightened activity along the Manbij line emerged December 8, 2025, with Turkish convoys crossing into Syria and claims of TSK advancing on three fronts toward SDF-held areas. An AK Party figure issued a stark warning to "terror elements," while sources note minor clashes as SDF resists dissolution. Damascus President Ahmed al-Sharaa echoed the ultimatum, hinting Türkiye could act if integration fails by December, amid stalled talks over minority rights and U.S. backing for SDF. Israel’s strikes and regional instability add pressure, but Ankara insists on full compliance for Syria's unity.

SDF denies some deadlines but acknowledges ongoing talks. U.S./Ankara mediation continues amid stalled committees.
