Investigation Continues Into Ankara Jet Crash Carrying Libyan Military Delegation

The investigation into the jet crash near Ankara that killed senior Libyan military officials is ongoing, with Turkish authorities emphasizing that early findings point to technical and operational factors rather than foul play.

The aircraft, which was transporting a Libyan military delegation including the Chief of the General Staff, went down shortly after takeoff while approaching Ankara. All passengers and crew on board lost their lives.

The probe is being coordinated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and is centered on flight performance, aircraft systems, and crew procedures. Flight data and cockpit voice recorders have been secured and are undergoing detailed analysis by aviation and forensic specialists.

Officials familiar with the inquiry say preliminary assessments have found no indications of terrorism, sabotage, or espionage. Authorities have cautioned, however, that the investigation remains open and that conclusions will rest on verified technical evidence.

As part of the process, investigators are reviewing maintenance logs, pre-flight checks, and air traffic communications. Technical assessments are being supported by national research bodies examining radar records, signal data, and visual material linked to the final moments of the flight.

Reports that a cabin crew member was briefly questioned were confirmed by security sources, who described the step as a routine procedural measure. No charges were filed, and no criminal findings emerged from the questioning.

The crash has drawn particular attention due to the rank of the Libyan officials on board and the broader context of cooperation between Türkiye and Libya. Turkish authorities have stressed that the investigation will proceed without haste or political framing, and that further updates will be shared once the technical review is complete.
