How to Start Using 5G in Türkiye From April 1
By Bosphorus News Tech Desk
Türkiye will begin offering 5G service in the centers of all 81 provinces from April 1, 2026. The rollout will expand nationwide over the next two years. For users, access depends on four basic conditions: a compatible device, a compatible SIM card, operator activation and correct phone settings.
Check your device first
A 5G-compatible phone is required. Devices such as iPhone 12 and newer models, and Samsung Galaxy S21 and above, support 5G. Users can confirm compatibility by checking their phone settings under cellular or mobile network options. If 5G appears as a selectable network type, the device supports it.
Make sure your SIM card is up to date
Most 4.5G-compatible SIM cards already work with 5G. Older SIM cards may need to be replaced. Users with long-used lines should check with their operator before April 1.
Activate 5G on your line
5G access will not be automatic. Users must activate the service through their mobile operator. This can typically be done via SMS or through the operator’s mobile application, depending on the provider.
Turn on 5G in settings
After activation, users need to enable 5G on their device. This is done by switching the preferred network type from LTE or 4.5G to 5G in the phone’s settings menu.
Coverage will be limited at first
5G will initially be available in city centers. Outside these areas, devices will continue to connect to existing 4.5G networks until coverage expands.
What changes for users
5G offers higher speeds and lower latency, particularly in crowded environments such as stadiums and transport hubs. However, faster speeds also mean higher data usage. Operators are expected to introduce new packages, including high-capacity or unlimited plans.
For most users, the transition is straightforward. If the device, SIM and operator settings are aligned, 5G access will be available as soon as coverage reaches their location.
