President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a phone call on March 10, 2026 that any violation of Türkiye’s airspace would be inexcusable, according to a statement cited by Turkish media.

According to the statement, the call took place at the Iranian side’s request and focused on the latest regional developments as tensions continued to rise. Erdoğan said there was a need to reopen the door to diplomacy and that Türkiye was making efforts in that direction. He also said Ankara did not view unlawful intervention against Iran as legitimate and did not consider attacks targeting Iran’s neighboring brotherly countries to be acceptable.

During the conversation, Erdoğan said Türkiye was being negatively affected by conflicts to which it was not a party, adding that a violation of its airspace could not be excused under any circumstances and that Türkiye would continue to take all necessary measures in response.

The statement also said Erdoğan conveyed his sorrow over the loss of life, including children killed in the school attack in Menab, repeated his condolences for Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, and said he hoped the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new leader would contribute to peace in the region. Pezeshkian, for his part, said the missiles that entered Turkish airspace were not of Iranian origin and that a comprehensive investigation would be carried out
