Cyprus Probes Leaked Video Amid Claims of Russian Disinformation and Digital Links to Türkiye
Cypriot authorities are investigating the origins of a controversial video that has reignited allegations of corruption in the country’s political system, as competing claims emerge over whether the footage is linked to Russian disinformation efforts or digital networks traced to Türkiye.
The renewed attention follows a public call by Nikos Christodoulides, President of Cyprus, urging anyone with concrete evidence of bribery or wrongdoing to come forward. Speaking amid growing online circulation of the video, Christodoulides stressed that allegations must be examined through legal channels, cautioning against speculation driven by social media.
Claims of a Russian Disinformation Operation
As the investigation developed, Cypriot officials indicated that the video may be part of a broader foreign disinformation effort. According to officials cited in international reporting, the footage shows characteristics associated with influence operations previously linked to Russia, including selective editing and coordinated online amplification.
