Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides met in Nicosia on April 6, 2026, reporting progress on certain confidence-building measures (CBMs) but leaving the substance of those steps undisclosed, with both sides pointing to the next round of talks later this month for concrete announcements.

Both leaders described the meeting as constructive, with discussions focused on practical measures aimed at easing tensions and improving day to day cooperation on the island.

In a statement after the meeting, the TRNC Presidency said the two sides reviewed ongoing initiatives and agreed to continue work on trust-building measures, adding that they plan to meet again by the end of April.

Christodoulides also referred to progress on specific measures, but indicated that details would be presented at the next meeting, suggesting that any announcement is being held back until a more complete set of steps is ready.

For now, both sides point to movement, but without disclosing what has actually been agreed.

The next meeting, expected later in April, is likely to determine whether that progress can be translated into concrete measures.
