Baykar Unveils K2 Kamikaze UAV With 2,000-km Range and AI Swarm Capability
By Bosphorus News Defence Desk
Baykar unveiled the K2 Kamikaze UAV on March 14, 2026, following multi-day autonomous swarm flight tests conducted from the Kesan Flight Training and Test Center in Edirne. Five K2 platforms flew in right echelon, line and V-formation configurations over the Saros Gulf, maintaining position relative to each other using AI, onboard sensors and software. Baykar said all assigned missions were completed successfully.
The company described the K2 as the largest kamikaze platform in its class. Maximum takeoff weight is 800 kilograms. The warhead weighs 200 kilograms. Range exceeds 2,000 kilometres, speed exceeds 200 kilometres per hour and endurance exceeds 13 hours. The platform can take off and land from short or unprepared strips.
Baykar chairman Selçuk Bayraktar posted a single line on social media: "Never neglect to make 'small surprises' from time to time."
GPS-Denied Navigation and AI Targeting
The K2 is designed for contested electronic warfare environments. When GNSS signals are absent or jammed, the platform uses a gimbal camera and a night-vision-capable camera to scan terrain and estimate position autonomously. An EO/IR gimbal provides both reconnaissance and precision targeting through visual lock-on. The platform also carries coordinate-based strike capability and supports both line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight satellite data links.
Reusable Variant in Development
Baykar said the project is designed to field high-impact platforms that can be mass-produced at low cost, reducing reliance on expensive munitions. In the next phase of development, the company plans to build a variant capable of returning to base after delivering its payload, enabling reuse across multiple missions.
Export Context
Baykar remained the world's largest UAV exporter in 2025, recording 2.2 billion dollars in exports. The company has signed export agreements with 37 countries. Ninety percent of its revenues come from exports. Its existing portfolio includes the Bayraktar TB2, Bayraktar Akıncı, ship-capable Bayraktar TB3 and jet-powered Bayraktar Kızılelma.
No export agreements for the K2 have been announced.
